4. Tre Watson is here to stay

Although even we here at Hook’Em Headlines figured the ground game to be headed in one clear direction, we were proved wrong in a big way in Week 10. For the Texas football offense, having some depth and utility out of the backfield is most certainly a great aspect. Considering past circumstances, that just didn’t seem like the case.

The presence of senior running back Tre Watson did not fade any further into the background in Week 10 which will keep the dynamic duo at this position alive. For nearly the entire year, the two best options for the Horns at running back composed of Watson and true freshman Keaontay Ingram. That stayed alive against West Virginia even though some indicative recent trends seemed to prove otherwise.

Watson contributed with both his legs and his hands with a massive performance featuring multiple touchdowns. We’re also starting to figure out that Watson thrives on the Forty Acres. Some of his lamest displays of the season came on the road, especially against Oklahoma State and Maryland.

In this game, Watson racked up 115 total yards and two touchdowns. He was actually much better than Ingram in this game since the West Virginia defense had to respect the range in his skill set. Ingram is still developing his receiving ability and Watson could beat the defense on the ground or in the receiving game.
