1. Double-digit win season is now down the drain

Coming out of the season’s first bye week, the Horns were sitting pretty with a No. 6 ranking in the AP Poll and a shot at both a Big 12 Title and Playoff berth. Even losing just one game the rest of the way would put the Horns in position to claim a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl, compete for a Big 12 Championship, and get some success on the recruiting trail.

In order to accomplish anything remotely similar to what the Horns were hoping for coming out of the bye week, chaos needs to happen at the top of the Big 12 standings and this team cannot lose another game. Either Oklahoma, West Virginia, or the Iowa State Cyclones would need to lose at least two more games with the Horns winning out.

Losing this game to West Virginia could not happen after the road upset at the hands of Oklahoma State. The loss to Maryland didn’t mean much in terms of Big 12 contention at this point. Closing out games was the important task at hand and Texas is 0-for-2 thus far. The letdown hit early out of the bye week.

Three difficult but winnable games do remain against Texas Tech, Iowa State, and the Kansas Jayhawks. Texas Tech and Iowa State are playing really well right now and won’t give in easy to the Horns. Realistically at most, four games are left for Texas football and wins in every single game are needed to get to 10 wins.
