Texas Basketball: 5 reasons this could be a big season for Andrew Jones
3. Improving facilitating ability
When he first made his way to the Forty Acres with the Texas basketball program, Jones had some key areas to improve his game. One of those was distributing the ball and facilitating the offense with the ball in his hands. He was more of a pure scoring threat than someone who was going to beat a defense in numerous ways.
The particular areas of Jones’ game that do need some work are going to come along soon. This is an aspect where Texas is going to have to patiently work through some growing pains with Jones. Over the course of his first season on the Forty Acres, Jones steadily progressed in this part of his game which shows he could pick up where he left off sometime in the near future.
Texas could always use more quality facilitators and ball handlers in the back court compared to what they have now. But, Coleman and Ramey are quickly becoming two big threats with the ball in their hands. That does provide some encouraging signs for Jones learning by example and not needing to have too much pressure on his shoulders on offense.
Two reasons to believe in the facilitating ability for Jones improving throughout the 2018-19 season and heading into 2019-20 will be elaborated on further in this list. His awareness and patience on offense are going to be huge keys to him getting a better grip on how to effectively run this offense with the ball in his hands.
