Texas Basketball: Key numbers from each player vs. Eastern Illinois
By Shane Black
Texas basketball opened their season with a 71-59 win over Eastern Illinois. Ten guys saw action, including five new faces. Here’s how they performed.
The Texas basketball team opened up their season on Nov. 6 with a 71-59 win over the Eastern Illinois Panthers on Tuesday night in the Frank Erwin Center.
The first 15 minutes of the game gave Texas basketball fans notorious flashbacks to early season games in previous years against the likes of Tennessee State, Incarnate Word, and Long Beach State where they strung together wins by the skin of their teeth despite the major talent gap.
Eastern Illinois actually led this game 25-23 with just under four minutes to go in the first half, but Texas closed the half on a 15-3 run that saw them take a 38-28 lead into the break.
The Texas Longhorns did not look back, taking a 62-39 lead midway through the second half that ultimately saw them defeat the Panthers by 12 points.
As a team, the Longhorns previous season downfalls were once again the weakness. Texas shot 8-25 (32 percent) from range and 11-20 (55 percent) from the line. This did not have much affect on the outcome Tuesday night, but the Horns must understand the importance of leaving points on the court when they face tougher opponents.
After 40 minutes of total action as a team for the Texas Longhorns, lets break down each individual players performance against the Eastern Illinois Panthers.
