Texas Football: What we learned from win over Iowa State
A two-game losing streak doomed the Playoff chances this yea for Texas football, but it turned things around now riding a two-game winning streak.
It’s very possible that No. 11 Texas football (in the latest AP Poll) claimed its second biggest win of the season, against the formerly ranked No. 16 Iowa State Cyclones in Week 12. Texas football needed a win to stay alive for a place in the Big 12 Championship Game this year. Since Iowa State fell flat, Texas football is still alive.
It is a shame that the national spotlight couldn’t get to shine on the Texas Longhorns much in this game. Longhorn Network aired the game. It was available only to a very limited audience, mainly in the state of Texas. At least the national stage recognized what this win means for the program.
The final score in this game favoring the Horns came by 24-10. It was a thoroughly impressive performance from this defense that struggled of late. There were times when the Horns gave up more than 10 points in the span of just a few minutes in the three games previous. However, head Texas football coach Tom Herman rose to the occasion again and got a huge response out of his team.
There’s a long list of accomplishments that the Horns added to with this win. Most important was the sign of progress since the Horns now have eight wins for the first time since the 2013 season. And, Texas football could very easily be in line for a double-digit win season for the first time since 2009.
Here’s a look at what we learned from the win for the Texas Longhorns over the Iowa State Cyclones at home in Week 12.
