Texas Football: A look back at this year’s senior class

Five-year players

Jak Holbrook, DSHolbrook redshirted in 2014, and did not play in 2015. He has been the primary deep snapper for the last three years. He was named to the 2018 William V. Campbell Trophy semifinalists list. Holbrook is a six time Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll recipient.

Andrew Beck, TE: Beck has appeared in 47 games with 26 starts in his career with Texas football. Beck missed all of last season due to a foot injury but he received a medical redshirt. Beck has been Sam Ehlinger’s safety blanket this season. He has 22 catches for 216 yards and a touchdown this season. In his career Beck has 33 catches for 370 yards and three touchdowns. He is a captain for this team this season.

Jerrod Heard, WR: Heard came to Texas ranked as the No. 4 dual-threat quarterback in the nation, per Rivals.com. He redshirted in 2014 but started 10 of 12 games in 2015 at quarterback. Heard had his famous comeback game in Week 3 that year against Cal where he finished with 364 passing yards, 163 rushing yards, and three touchdowns.

He finished his freshman year with 1,214 passing yards (fifth among Texas football freshmen) and 556 rusing yards, with eight total touchdowns.. Heard has played wide receiver since his sophomore year, making three starts and appearing in 25 games. Heard has a career 54 receptions for 508 yards and four touchdowns.

Chris Nelson, DL: Nelson redshirted in 2014, but has since played in 41 games with 25 career starts. He was named preseason All-Big 12 in 2017. Nelson has a career 98 tackles, and 15 tackles for a loss. He has 3.5 sacks, one forced fumble, and one fumble recovery in his career.

Nelson is a captain this season, and although he doesn’t show up much in the box score, his impact is felt on the field. He forces quarterbacks and running backs to bounce outside, allowing the speedy defenders in pursuit to make tackles for loss.

Elijah Rodriguez, OL: Rodriguez redshirted in 2014, played in seven games in 2015, played in all 12 games in 2016, but missed the entirety of the 2017 season with a preseason injury. He came back to start in the Texas Bowl. This season, Rodriguez has started in nine games, six at right guard and four at center. He has been key for the Horns up front this year and has appeared on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll five times. He is also a captain this season.
