Want: Better regular season finale

You could hear the outcry from a good portion of Texas football fans for a better matchup in the regular season finale. It’s hard to get up for a game like this one on Black Friday morning after devouring a large meal on Thanksgiving Day. And, you’d hope that the kick-off time for this one could’ve at least been a bit later.

Despite what some might think, landing Kansas in the regular season finale might not be ideal for the Horns this fall. On one hand, Texas does get the team at the bottom of the Big 12 standings as its only road block to making its first appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game since 2009. On the other, the Horns might already be in the Big 12 Title Game if it faced Kansas earlier in the year.

Most of all, Texas got put in a difficult situation for the fans to view what happens in its regular season finale. Texas kicks off against the Jayhawks in the morning of Black Friday. This game might have one of the smallest audiences of any Power Five game on Black Friday. Let alone if you compare the audience from this game to the draw for some of the bigger Saturday affairs.

We don’t need the Horns to face a big time rival to cap it all off. The Red River Showdown is fine where it is on the schedule. But, it was nice when the Horns could face the Texas A&M Aggies on Thanksgiving Week. There should still be some worthy opponents of getting the Thanksgiving Week game against the Horns. Teams like the TCU Horned Frogs, Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor Bears, and Texas Tech Red Raiders come to mind.
