Texas Football: What to be thankful for, and what to want for Black Friday
Want: Big 12 Championship
The good part about Texas football getting Kansas in the regular season finale is the clear path to an appearance in the Big 12 Championship Game. The appearance in the conference title game isn’t where the expectations end with this fan base. Texas wants Big 12 Championships, not second place finishes.
The 2009 season was the last time that the Horns claimed a Big 12 Championship. Oklahoma ran this conference since Texas won that Big 12 Title with Colt McCoy leading the way. The past decade on the Forty Acres was very long and difficult for this fan base to see how things transpired at the end of Mack Brown’s tenure and all through Charlie Strong.
Head Texas football coach Tom Herman is getting this program to where it should be. Herman did have some letdowns along the way that could present a worrying sign for the future. His habit tends to be playing up and down to the competition. Herman can’t do that moving forward if he wants to consistently compete to bring Big 12 Titles back to the Forty Acres.
However, Texas is two victories away from claiming the 2018 Big 12 Title. If Texas takes down Kansas, it will get either Oklahoma or West Virginia at AT&T Stadium on Dec. 1. A Red River rematch would be something we would wish for on this list if there were a few more things. Having the opportunity to knock out the Sooners twice in one season would be huge.
