A departed head coach that could be a hot commodity on the open market right now, especially for Texas football, is Kliff Kingsbury.

A Power Five job opening that will be pretty attractive for prospective candidates this off-season came with the departure of Kliff Kingsbury from the Texas Tech Red Raiders. Texas football could also be looking the way of Kingsbury, if some recent swirling rumors prove true. Those rumors aren’t with any credible backing in regards to Texas football, thought

The discussion surrounding both where Kingsbury should go now and who Texas Tech will target next are impactful to the Texas football program. Texas Tech is one of the more significant opponents in the Big 12 for Texas football year in and year out. Finding a new, and potentially more successful head coach, would mean more competition for Texas football coming out of Lubbock, TX.

A few names that surfaced for the next Texas Tech head coach include Clemson Tigers defensive coordinator Brent Venables, North Texas Mean Green Seth Littrell, and Troy Trojans head coach Neal Brown. Littrell and Brown would be a different approach for Texas Tech athletic director Kirby Hocutt than the Kingsbury hire hire back in 2013. Kingsbury was an assistant for the Texas A&M Aggies before he landing the head job at Texas Tech.

However, head Texas football coach Tom Herman has some previous ties to Kingsbury. They both coached at the Houston Cougars at some point in their careers. Herman and Kingsbury are also offensive minded coaches in their own right.

Here’s a look at the places where former Texas Tech head coach Kliff Kingsbury could go and how those implications relate to the Texas Longhorns.
