2. Past Tim Beck struggles

This point is where it gets more difficult to know where the coaching staff lies with the plan for the future of the offensive play calling. Beck made some progress with the offense, if he was in fact the one calling the plays throughout most of the 2018 campaign. The Texas offense is more effective and balanced than it was in years.

If this was Herman calling the plays for the Horns, it makes Beck less valuable to the coaching staff and the future of this program. The general public doesn’t have much information regarding the play calling duties for the Texas offense beyond what Herman stated in press conferences since fall camp. For much of the season, the Horns ran a collaborative effort for play calling.

Beck caught a lot of criticism last year for the lack of adjustments in his play calling and offensive gameplans. Even when Texas couldn’t get anything going on the ground or with certain plays through the air, Beck would still try the same thing over and over again. The patience did seem to pay off this year.

We’ll trace back to why this is the lightest and most controversial point. Beck could actually be one of the more important parts to the success of the Texas offense this year. Depending on how pivotal his role was with the offense this year largely determines what his future will be on the Forty Acres.
