Texas Football: 5 reasons the Longhorns will beat OU in the Big 12 Title Game
1. Texas offense will exploit inept Oklahoma defense again
In that four week stretch where the Oklahoma defense allowed at least 40 points to each offense, Texas football had to learn a lot. The defensive coordinator switch that Riley made from Mike Stoops to Ruffin McNeill this year didn’t seem to do much. Oklahoma even allowed 40-plus points to the likes of the Jayhawks and Oklahoma State Cowboys.
We’re talking about the same Oklahoma State team that couldn’t put up more than 24 points against the TCU Horned Frogs, 17 to the Texas Tech Red Raiders, and 12 to the Kansas State Wildcats. Oklahoma’s defense holds the entire team back more than any other Playoff contender in the nation.
Ehlinger put up more than 400 total yards and five touchdowns, with just one interception, in the first Red River Showdown this year. The only thing that would hold Ehlinger back this time against Oklahoma would be the shoulder sprain that definitely hampered him against the Jayhawks. It’s worth watching Ehlinger’s progress in practice in the week leading up to this game.
Finding the right groove in the passing game is a priority for the Horns after a lame performance against the Jayhawks. Junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey was held in check due to the injury to the throwing shoulder of Ehlinger. If Ehlinger is healthy and ready to go, the Oklahoma defense will have another long day.
