The first commit of this 2019 Texas basketball recruiting class had his stock rise since he made his decision to come to the Forty Acres. Four-star Missouri City, TX, shooting guard Donovan Williams showed out in his most recent camps and at the high school level. Williams is playing well for Elkins High School so far with Elkins sitting at 7-2 on the season.

If he makes a positive impact on Smart during summer and preseason workouts next year, Williams could be a significant contributor off the bench as a freshman. The starting shooting guard next season will be up in the air with senior guard Kerwin Roach II running out of eligibility after 2018-19.

Going with a different style lineup next season would benefit Williams since he could develop under a player like sharpshooting guard Jase Febres. More than likely, Smart will look to start Febres and the two and Matt Coleman at the one next season with Roach II gone. A lot of the starting lineups this season have Coleman at the one, Roach II at the two, and Febres on the wing.

Williams is going to be a threat to open up the floor for the Texas offense with his ability to drive the rim, shoot from deep, and facilitate in transition. He’s a very versatile shooting guard that could also thrive on the wing. Williams could be a good shooter that’s a more versatile threat than Febres is right now on the wing.
