5. The impact of the rematch

It has to make some Texas football fans concerned that there’s one win in store for the Red River Showdown in the same year its facing Oklahoma in the Big 12 Title Game. This is one of the biggest rivalries in college football and there is going to be some bad blood between these two teams on Dec. 1.

While Texas does have a lot to play for in this game, it might not have as much on the line as the Sooners. Getting revenge on the Horns for its loss in Red River back on Oct. 6 has to be firmly on the minds of the players and coaching staff. That type of motivation can be an underrated factor in the way a team like Oklahoma shows up for a showdown on the national stage in a conference title game.

Oklahoma has its second straight appearance in the College Football Playoff and its fourth straight Big 12 Title on the line here. There’s a good chance that the Sooners get in the Playoff field over the Ohio State Buckeyes if it wins the Big 12 Championship Game. Oklahoma and Ohio State are the two teams that the final spot in the Playoff should come down to.

The thought of what could happen if both Oklahoma and Ohio State lose in each respective conference title game is nearly unfathomable. Oklahoma losing to Texas wouldn’t be far fetched, but Ohio State gets to face the Northwestern Wildcats in the Big 10 Championship Game. The odds that Northwestern beats Ohio State seems slim to none.
