7. Tom Herman’s quest for 10 wins

For the first time since the 2009 season, Texas football is looking to get a double-digit win campaign under its belt. Head Texas football coach Tom Herman has this program on the right track. Some fans were even left saying “Texas is back” this year, even though that statement came a bit too early.

Herman needs to either pick up a win in the Big 12 Championship Game or in the postseason for the Horns to reach the 10-win mark. Texas has a good shot of at least getting a 10-4 record this year. A record of 11-3 is certainly plausible for the Horns, but isn’t likely with how difficult the final two games would be.

It’s hard to see the Horns taking down Oklahoma twice in one year, with so much on the line for both teams. Locking up that elusive 10th win against a hated rival like the Sooners would be the perfect way to get to that point. It’s a dream scenario for the Horns to get two of 10 wins in one season against its biggest rival.

The most wins that any Texas team had since Charlie Strong took over during the 2014 season is seven. Herman reached that mark in his first year on the Forty Acres. He took a massive leap forward this fall with at least two more wins. The fans should be excited about what’s to come in the next two games and next season.
