Texas Football: Notes on redshirt situation after the regular season
By Shane Black
Front Seven
DT Keondre Coburn (2 GP): Coburn has only played in two games this season so he will be available for the redshirt season no matter how much he plays down the stretch. This is good news for Herman as many envisioned the nationally ranked 11th defensive tackle to be a five-year guy.
DL Moro Ojomo (1 GP): Ojomo has played in one game this season, against the West Virginia Mountaineers, due to mass injuries. He will take this season as a redshirt. Ojomo was the 27th ranked defensive tackle out of Katy, TX, and should be a five-year guy.
DL Michael Williams (0 GP): Williams is a Baton Rogue, LA, native who came in as an “athlete” and has since transitioned to the defensive line. The 527th nationally ranked recruit should make his impact in his latter years.
DE Daniel Carson (0 GP): Carson was a lower 3-star recruit out of Independence, MO. He didn’t commit to Texas football until late January of 2018, and his impact will be felt later rater than sooner.
LB Ayodele Adeoye (3 GP): Adeoye is a freshman, Spring 2018 enrollee. He was ranked 119th nationally and 6th at inside linebacker coming out of IMG Academy. Adeoye suffered a knee injury in mid-August that nagged him for a few months. He first appeared for Texas football in Week 11 against Texas Tech and has since played the final two games. Sitting at three games played, it will be interesting to see how the coaching staff handles this situation. Adeoye may be a candidate to leave for the NFL early, so if Herman needs him in these final two games I do not think the redshirt rule will hold him back.
LB Byron Vaughns (0 GP): Vaughns was a 3-star linebacker out of Eastern Hills High School in Fort Worth, TX. He has not made an appearance this season as the Horns sport an experienced linebacking corps.
