1. Texas defense holds on long enough to win by one possession

It looked like the defense for Texas football was going to hold on long enough to claim a double-digit victory for the Horns against Oklahoma in the regular season. Oklahoma was down by a large margin of 45-24 before Murray brought them back to even things up late in the fourth quarter. If Texas jumps out to a lead like that this week, Oklahoma might be as good as gone.

The weird factor in the first Red River meeting was the play of the Oklahoma defense in the fourth quarter. Oklahoma’s defense stepping up and playing that well in a key fourth quarter was a rarity during the regular season. But, that side of the ball did what it needed against both Texas and West Virginia.

There’s too much on the line for Oklahoma to seemingly fall flat in this game. A win over the Horns redeems Oklahoma’s only loss of the year and puts them in prime position to get in over the Ohio State Buckeyes in the four team College Football Playoff field. This would also be the fourth straight Big 12 Title that Oklahoma brings back to Norman.

On the line for Texas is a spot in a New Year’s Six Bowl, more than likely the Sugar Bowl against a top team out of the SEC, and its first Big 12 Championship in almost a decade. Texas could also reach 10-wins for the first time since 2009. Most of all, if its defense can hang on and hold Oklahoma to less than 45 points here, it gives the offense a chance to carry this team to victory over its biggest rival for the second time in the same season.
