4. The hot streak ends for Kerwin Roach Jr.

The heart and soul of this Texas basketball team is senior shooting guard Kerwin Roach Jr. Since returning from his suspension, Texas got tons of contributions from Roach Jr. while he was playing heavy minutes. Up until this game Roach Jr. hadn’t posted scoring in the single figures this season and was shooting pretty well from the field.

Roach Jr. played heavy minutes again in this game, but couldn’t find the scoring rhythm he had in the previous five games. He finished with just seven points and made only two field goals on 12 attempts. This was the first time in a while that Roach Jr. shot worse than 17.5 percent from the field.

The rest of the stat line for Roach Jr. wouldn’t blow anyone away either. He finished with seven rebounds, three assists, and three turnovers. Even his free-throw shooting wasn’t very good, at 50 percent. Roach Jr. and Osetkowski both should’ve spread the ball around more since each was ice cold in shooting from the field and the free throw line.

Volume scorers can go through ups and downs like Roach Jr. did against Radford. The other volume scorers that went through a difficult time against Radford is the former transfer guard Elijah Mitrou-Long. Roach Jr. and Mitrou-Long posted 11 points combined and two of the lowest player efficiency ratings in this game.
