Texas Basketball in the NBA: How are former Longhorns doing in 2018-19?
By Shane Black
Avery Bradley and Cory Joseph
Avery Bradley, SG, Los Angeles Clippers
17 G,17 GS (28.9 MPG): 7.8 PPG, 2.1 RPG, 1.8 APG. .383/.275/.714
Avery Bradley has struggled to find his role on the Clippers since being traded there in February. On the Celtics, Bradley was known as a 3-and-D guy who was starting to develop a solid one-on-one offensive game. So far this season he has struggled on offense, averaging just under eight points and two assists per game.
Bradley has been inefficient from the field and has looked somewhat tentative on the offensive end. He still is a solid on-ball defender, but has seemed to have lost that spark he once had on the Celtics. Bradley is not a unrestricted free agent until 2020, but don’t be surprised if the Clippers moved him before then.
Cory Joseph, PG, Indiana Pacers
23 G, 0 GS, (26.5 MPG): 7.2 PPG, 3.9 APG, 3.5 RPG, 1.4 SPG. .460/.440/.440
Cory Joseph is currently the backup point guard for the Indiana Pacers. He is a nice change of pace guy who plays defense and doesn’t turn the ball over. Joseph is not taking many shots, putting up an average of 6.6 per game. He is not great out of the pick-and-roll, but when playing off the ball he can be deadly on a spot up look.
On the defensive end Joseph is not a liability nor is he strength. He can hold his own and is known as a hustle guy, but often gets beat just based off of athletic ability. Nonetheless, Joseph has carved himself out a nice career as a backup point guard. We cap the list off of former Texas basketball players in significant roles in the NBA this season with Joseph.
