The Tampa, FL, native had by far his best season in his five years at the 40 acres. Beck was granted a medical redshirt after fracturing his foot in 2017 and he made the most of it.
Herman integrated Beck into the offense unlike his predecessor Charlie Strong. In his first three collegiate seasons Beck had 11 catches for 154 yards. In 2018 he had 27 receptions for 276 yards and two touchdowns.
Beck and Ehlinger were roommates and became very good friends. They had a visable connection on the field. In crunch time and times of trouble Ehlinger look for his roommate. He was Sam’s safety blanket. Beck was also a very solid run blocker, often times getting to the second level, clearing space for Ehlinger or the back.
Not only did Beck have a phenomenal on-field performance in 2018 but he also was a team leader. Beck was voted team captain and was often seen as the guy pumping up his teammates in the huddle or on the sideline.
Beck was an integral piece of this Texas football team and he will be missed.
