Texas Football: Ranking every NY6 Bowl by entertainment factor
5. Rose Bowl
Matchup: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Washington Huskies
Date: Jan. 1
Location: Pasadena, CA
This game is going to have an added ora to it since the Ohio State head coach Urban Meyer will be retiring immediately following the Rose Bowl this year. Meyer will be followed by Ryan Day as the head coach. Day also was the interim head coach for three games this fall while Meyer was serving his suspension. Ohio State was also a team that pulled Texas football into a lot of drama this year.
Ohio State gets a hot opponent right now in the Washington Huskies that are fresh off its second PAC-12 Championship in the last three years. Washington head coach Chris Petersen is one of the most underrated in the nation and will be looking to that prove that in this game.
Washington and Ohio State poses a top 10 matchup that has to favor the Buckeyes. We could be looking at the last game that both Ohio State quarterback Dwayne Haskins and Meyer are with this team. Haskins could bolt for the 2019 NFL Draft after this game, since he’s getting early round hype.
It will be interesting to see how senior Washington quarterback Jake Browning does against an Ohio State defense that is prone to giving up the big play. Senior running back Myles Gaskin is also going to be a big threat to the Ohio State defense and its hopes of winning the Rose Bowl. The good news for Ohio State is that the Washington offense was inept for a good portion of the regular season.
