3. Sugar Bowl

Matchup: Texas Longhorns vs. Georgia Bulldogs

Date: Jan. 1

Location: New Orleans, LA

Now, we finally get to the point where we’re talking about Texas football and its quest to knock off the Georgia Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl. Texas football gets to face Georgia for the first time since 1984. Georgia won the last meeting, but the Horns hold the all-time edge with a record of 3-1.

Georgia just fell short against the Alabama Crimson Tide in what was one of the most entertaining games of the season. Alabama got the best of the Dawgs in the SEC Championship Game by the final score of 35-28. Georgia put up a good fight, leading by at least two possessions for a good portion of the game. It wasn’t enough to hold off the Crimson Tide late.

Meanwhile, Texas football is coming off a loss of its own in the Big 12 Championship Game to the Oklahoma Sooners by the final score of 39-27. Texas football actually led for much of the game, but ran into similar issues in the second half like Georgia did. This matchup between Texas and Georgia should deliver the most entertainment value of all the New Year’s Six Bowl that aren’t for the College Football Playoff.

Texas football carries a record of 9-4 (7-3 Big 12) into the Sugar Bowl to try and hand Georgia its third loss of the season. The headlines for this game are remarkable since Texas football is the most surprising team in the New Year’s Six and Georgia was the first team let out of the College Football Playoff field.
