1. Orange Bowl

Matchup: Oklahoma Sooners vs. Alabama Crimson Tide

Date: Dec. 29

Location: Miami, FL

Oklahoma made its way into the final spot of the College Football Playoff four-team field with the win over Texas football in the Big 12 Championship Game. Alabama gave Texas football its opponent in the Sugar Bowl, Georgia, with its win in the SEC Championship Game. Oklahoma and Alabama will both have a ton of momentum heading into this game.

Texas football fans should have some sort of rooting interest in this Playoff Semifinal matchup because of who is involved. Alabama always delivers on the Playoff front, and Oklahoma will be looking to get past the Semifinals for the first time during the Playoff-era. Last year saw the Sooners fall short against Georgia in its Semifinal matchup.

This should be the last game that we see junior Oklahoma quarterback Kyler Murray suiting up a the college ranks. He’s likely to take his talents to join the Oakland Athletics, who selected him in the first round of the 2018 MLB Draft, following the conclusion of this college football season. That is if Murray falls short against the Crimson Tide on Dec. 29.

Alabama is favored in this game by 14-points. There’s a good chance that the Oklahoma offense gets shut down by the vaunted defense of the Crimson Tide for a lot of this matchup. Alabama’s offense probably won’t be shut down by the porous Oklahoma defense that was one of the worst in the Big 12 this year. Although, it will be interesting to see if Jalen Hurts or Tua Tagovailoa gets the nod in this game.
