The three-game losing streak for Texas basketball was snapped at a good time as it heads into a six-day break between games.

A busy first week of the month of December for Texas basketball now leads into a dead period coming after a big Dec. 9 win. Texas basketball took down the Purdue Boilermakers to notch its sixth win of the regular season. That win couldn’t have come at a better time. The 72-68 win over the Boilermakers came at a time when Texas basketball needed to stop at three-game skid. Two of those theee losses during the slide for Texas basketball game when the Horns were favored.

Texas basketball gets a rather long period of time off following the Purdue game on Dec. 9. The next game up for the Horns comes against the Grand Canyon Antelopes on Dec. 15. Texas only has four total non-conference games left for the regular season, and three before the start of Big 12 play. The other remaining non-conference games comes against the Providence Friars, UT-Arlington Mavericks, and Georgia Bulldogs in the Big 12/SEC Challenge that will come in the midst of conference play.

A disappointing stretch during non-conference play was at least marked by a big win to get the Horns back on track. Purdue is a closer test to what the Horns will see during Big 12 play, so a good performance bodes well for this team’s confidence moving forward.

Texas still likely needs to win out through the rest of non-conference play to have a shot at staying in a position for the NCAA Tournament heading into the second half of the regular season.

Here’s a look the five thoughts and notes as we head into a long down period for the Texas Longhorns this week.
