3. Rose Bowl

Matchup: Ohio State Buckeyes vs. Washington Huskies

Date: Jan. 1

Location: Pasadena, CA

The Rose Bowl won’t feature any teams from the Big 12 this year, unlike it did last year. However, this is still a game that the majority of college football fans across the country should catch. The Rose Bowl features a Heisman finalist, quarterback Dwayne Haskins, and a load of NFL prospects on both teams.

This is the last game that legendary head coach Urban Meyer will have with the Ohio State Buckeyes before retiring due to some health issues that were exposed during the regular season. Meyer, and the rest of the Ohio State coaching staff, kept its off-the-field drama ties with the Texas football program alive since the preseason.

Ohio State gets the PAC-12 Champion Washington Huskies in the Rose Bowl, and opened as a significant favorite. A win for the Buckeyes would likely allow the Horns to jump above the Huskies in the polls entering the off-season if it pulls off the win over Georgia in the Sugar Bowl. The entertainment value here is going to be awesome.

This is an important New Year’s Six Bowl for Texas football fans even outside of the impact it has on the standing of the team. Ohio State and Washington are pure opposite teams in terms of the strengths and weaknesses of each. We get to see a rising head coach in the national picture, Chris Petersen, take on a legendary coach that is soon to retire.
