What are the most important storylines for Texas football heading into the postseason? It could change dramatically depending on the Sugar Bowl result.

The outset of the regular season didn’t give much promise to Texas football fans with the way the opening weekend turned out. Texas football opened its 2018 campaign the same way that it did in 2017, with a loss to the Maryland Terrapins. That loss to Maryland seemed like something that might be too much to recover from for this Texas football program.

However, Texas football turned things around very quick with a six-game winning streak that was built following the loss to Maryland. The six-game winning streak kicked off with a close victory over the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at home, but even that win brought about some warranted concerns. It took a last minute game-sealing drive from the Texas football offense to get past a slipping Tulsa team.

Everything didn’t connect for Texas football until the Week 3 victory over the USC Trojans at home. USC came into that game with a top 25 ranking, and wound up falling all the way to missing bowl eligibility this year, but it was a huge momentum building win at the time. The same was true for the win over the TCU Horned Frogs.

Following the wins over USC and TCU, Texas football seemed to be on a high that it couldn’t fall from. There were some ups and downs following that six-game winning streak, but this regular season was a huge success in the end.

Here’s a look at the five biggest regular season storylines for the Texas Longhorns in the midst of bowl season.
