To keep it close in the Allstate Sugar Bowl and possibly pull out the win, Texas football can’t come in with any lag against the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Sugar Bowl that features No. 15 ranked Texas football and the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs will be here before we know it, but there’s a lot of postseason action that is important to watch first. Bowl season kicks off officially on Dec. 15, with a slate that could be fun to watch even for fans of the Texas football program.

What Texas football can do to offset the balance and raw talent that Georgia has on both sides of the ball relies on a few factors. Texas football needs to rely heavily on the strengths and advantages it has coming into the Sugar Bowl. You can’t ignore the depth that Texas football has on both sides of the ball. Texas football has the speed and talent to at least keep up with a top tier team in Georgia.

However, both of those teams come into the Sugar Bowl off a similar result during conference championship week. Georgia fell short in the SEC Championship Game while the Horns lost to the Oklahoma Sooners in the Big 12 Championship Game. There should be a rather even playing field in terms of momentum at the outset of the Sugar Bowl.

Texas football has the opportunity to get the Big 12 one of its victories over an SEC opponent during the postseason. A few other teams in the Big 12 that will be taking on SEC competition includes the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Baylor Bears, and the Sooners (against the Alabama Crimson Tide in the College Football Playoff Semifinal).

Here’s a look at the five early bold predictions between the Texas Longhorns and Georgia Bulldogs in the Allstate Sugar Bowl at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans, LA, on Jan. 1 at 7:45 CT.
