Another area where Texas football needs to figure out how to cope next year at a skill position on the offensive side of the ball is running back. Texas football is going to be hampered by a number of running back transfers and losses due to eligibility running out after the Sugar Bowl.

The main loss that will be difficult to deal with is senior running back Tre Watson. The running back duo of Watson and true freshman Keaontay Ingram rejuvenated the Texas ground game this year. Texas needs to find the answer in the backfield next season to keep the offense as efficient and balanced as it was through much of the 2018 campaign.

The graduate transfer market might be place where head coach Tom Herman explores again, like he did during the 2018 off-season to land Watson. That could be the solution for the Horns if nothing is found on the recruiting trail to add to the 2019 class. Texas has the opportunity to add some potential standout freshmen before the Early Signing Period, and then before the National Signing Day.

One player that could be left with an opportunity to step up during the off-season and gain a larger role for 2019 than he had this year is sophomore running back Daniel Young. The role of Young faded as the regular season moved along this fall, but Herman might explore other options to find a solution in the backfield, or at least a framework, for next season in the Sugar Bowl.
