It feels like the off-season is almost officially here with the 2019 Texas football recruiting class soon to take part in the Early Signing Period.

It might still not carry the draw and significance to it as National Signing Day, but the Early Signing Period became more important than just about any recent recruiting change in the past three years. The 2019 Texas football recruiting class is not the only group that was impacted by the change to the Early Signing Period. This change was good for some and bad for others.

The programs that are likely out at the biggest disadvantage are two fold. The first is the Power Five schools that participate in a bowl game early on during the postseason. Teams like the Arizona State Sun Devils, Wake Forest Demon Deacons, and Boston College Eagles that all have early bowls can’t put the same time and attention on the recruiting trail as teams with later bowls or teams that missed the postseason entirely.

And, the second factor that tends to put Power Five programs at a disadvantage during the Early Signing Period are coaching changes. The Texas Tech Red Raiders are a good example of a team that will be hampered by the Early Signing Period. Texas Tech’s new head coach, former Utah State Aggies head man Matt Wells, got caught up in his own former team’s bowl game preparations before having to take over the recruiting responsibilities from Kliff Kingsbury.

However, the advantage to all of these factors for the 2019 Texas football recruiting class is apparent. The stability for the Texas Longhorns under head coach Tom Herman right now is a massive recruiting pitch to potential signees.

The 2019 Texas football recruiting class has a huge couple days ahead of it for the Early Signing Period which takes place between Dec. 19 and Dec. 21. Here’s a look at what you need to know and what you should expect for Texas football recruiting during the Early Signing Period.
