Early Signing Day Tracker 2019: Grading each Texas signee

The first Early Signing Day delivered plenty of headlines for the Texas football program, but there could be some more positives by National Signing Day.

The first day of the Early Signing Period arrived for Texas football recruiting and wasn’t too friendly so far. Dec. 19 was the first Early Signing Day, and it had a number of high stakes commitments that were set to have an impact on the 2019 Texas football recruiting class. Texas football recruiting watched for the early commitments of four-star running back Noah Cain and five-star Trey Sanders on the first Early Signing Day.

Another important commitment to watch on the first Early Signing Day for this class for the Horns was from four-star offensive tackle Isaiah Hookfin. Texas needs an upgrade on the offensive line, and Hookfin could help add something to that position group. His finalists boiled mostly down to the Horns and Baylor Bears.

This recruiting class for the Horns saw a pretty significant dip in its national class ranking on the first Early Signing Day. It dropped out of the nation’s top eight classes and out of the top spot in the Big 12 class rankings. The Oklahoma Sooners slid slightly above the Horns in the Big 12 and national class rankings again.

However, there’s still time for the Horns to recover from this before National Signing Day. This currently ranked ninth class in the nation, per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings, signed 21 commits so far on the first Early Signing Day.
