Early Signing Day Tracker 2019: Grading each Texas signee
Quarterback/Running Back
We’ll start with the Early Signing Day haul for the Horns with two of the most important positions on the offensive side of the ball for head coach Tom Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck. Quarterback and running back was mostly uneventful in the way of current commitments for the Horns.
The most detrimental parts of the Early Signing Day for the Horns at the skill positions was missing out on the commitments of both key running back targets Cain and Sanders. Cain landed with the Penn State Nittany Lions and Sanders with the Alabama Crimson Tide. The last target that Texas lost out on at running back JUCO target Rhamondre Stevenson.
Here’s the signees and grades for each of the commits:
Quarterback:
Roschon Johnson (Port Netches, TX): Texas gets a highly touted dual-threat four-star quarterback for the third straight recruiting cycle. Johnson could be a bona fide starter in Herman’s offense in two or three years. Grade: B+
Running Back:
Derrian Brown (Buford, GA): It’s hard to imagine what this class would be like for the Horns if not for landing at least one talented running back. Brown is going to be a valuable add alongside Keaontay Ingram and Daniel Young next season. Grade: A-
