3. Does Javonne Shepherd flip?

The question was going to come up since he didn’t sign down with the 2019 Texas football recruiting class on the first day of the Early Signing Period. Will this class be able to hang on to the four-star North Forest High School and Houston, TX, offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd. Texas needs every bit of offensive line help it can get in this class.

Hanging on to the commitment of Shepherd is key so that he can be signed at some point before National Signing Day. Since National Signing Day comes around in February 2019, the Horns will probably have to wait until then, per the Twitter timeline of Jason Schumel of orangebloods.com. That will be a long wait for the Horns.

Moreover, the Horns are going to have to wait for numerous targets/commits it has at offensive tackle right now. Shepherd is not the only lineman that is making the Horns wait. A big time four-star offensive tackle offeree of both the 2019 Texas football recruiting class and the Baylor Bears pushed back his decision to commit from the first day of the Early Signing Period.

It would be great for the 2019 Texas football recruiting class to nab both Shepherd and the target of the Horns and Baylor. Isaiah Hookfin, but that might be a while until we figure out if that happens. The possibility is also there for Texas to lose out on both Shepherd and Hookfin. The Texas A&M Aggies look to still be involved in the pursuit of Shepherd’s pledge.
