Texas Football Recruiting: 3 takeaways from Early Signing Day
The Early Signing Day where most of the action went down for nearly every major program didn’t give much to Texas football recruiting.
While the Early Signing Period is set to continue on for two more days, until Dec. 21, the first day is where nearly all the action lies. We could see a few key commits come through in the final two days, but Texas football recruiting is likely done for now. National Signing Day still promises to be an important marker for Texas football recruiting, but that is not for another for months.
It was a difficult Early Signing Day for the 2019 Texas football recruiting class in terms of hauling in any commits. There’s also one big question left in regard to the signing status of four-star offensive tackle Javonne Shepherd. Even though he kept his hard commit to the 2019 Texas football recruiting class, Shepherd was the only pledge that didn’t ink his National Letter of Intent.
Moreover, the unfortunate part for this 2019 Texas football recruiting class was the nature of the storylines that arose during the first Early Signing Day. Texas slipped from the No. 7 ranked class in the nation to almost out of the top 10 by the end of the day on Dec. 19, per 247Sports Team Composite Rankings.
There’s still time to recover before it’s all said and done. This class for the Horns likely won’t live up to the billing that the famed 2018 class did. That’s fine as long as this class fills the holes left by a significant amount of roster turnover coming this off-season.
Here’s a look at the three biggest takeaways from the first day of the Early Signing Day for the Texas Longhorns for the 2019 recruiting class.
