3. Adding a running back

The recruiting trail finished up nicely for this class for Texas football in the Early Signing Period. From Dec. 19-21, the Texas football recruiting class had its biggest opportunity to fill remaining needs and lock up a top 10 ranked class in the nation for the 2019 cycle. A big need was filled and there’s one left before National Signing Day 2019.

One big need this 2019 class filled during the Early Signing Period was along the offensive line. Texas pried four-star Dulles offensive tackle Isaiah Hookfin away from the Baylor Bears to get a huge boost on the final Early Signing Day. Landing Hookfin also gives this class for the Horns three four-star offensive tackle commits/signees.

Adding an offensive lineman leaves one gaping hole left in this recruiting class, at running back. Texas is going to need some help alongside freshman standout rusher Keaontay Ingram next season. Herman whiffed on the pursuit of the two best running backs that announced commitments on the first Early Signing Day.

The only running back in this 2019 class for the Horns is four-star Buford, GA, signee Derrian Brown. Texas has such heavy losses in the backfield this off-season that it could use another running back either by way of the graduate transfer market, but preferrably from the recruiting trail before National Signing Day arrives.
