The Alabama Crimson Tide have a one-two punch at quarterback that just isn’t fair right now. While Texas football is deep at the quarterback position, at least until is possibly loses both Thompson and Rising, it doesn’t come close to matching what head coach Nick Saban and the Crimson Tide boast.

It’s clear that Alabama is going to move forward with sophomore Tua Tagovailoa as the starting quarterback. Although junior quarterback Jalen Hurts is likely the reason for the Crimson Tide winning the SEC Championship Game, he doesn’t seem like the future for the Alabama passing game.

The issue with recruiting Hurts is going to be the same as a lot of potential quarterback transfers the Horns could go after. He has less eligibility left than Ehlinger, and probably wants to find an immediate starting job. Texas can’t really offer that to him, no matter what his resume shows what he was able to accomplish during his time at Alabama.

The opportunity to be second in line behind Ehlinger, carve out a different role even when he’s healthy, and possibly get some time starting if injuries take hold, has to be the pitch if the Horns target Hurts. There’s a good chance that Hurts and Tagovailoa both are top 10 quarterbacks in the nation, and the Horns would love to add one of them to the mix.
