4. Versatile running backs to keep the Georgia defense honest

This Georgia defense is going to come in with the focus of limiting the balance for the Texas football offense and box in Ehlinger. The Texas passing game does start to break down a bit when there’s heavy pressure on Ehlinger while his best targets don’t have the time to let their routes fully develop.

However, the way that the Horns are able to keep the productive and multi-dimensional offense alive in this game is keep the top two running backs involved in numerous facets. For senior running back Tre Watson, it’s about staying productive in pass protection and utilizing his reliable hands in the receiving game.

Moreover, freshman running back Keaontay Ingram is the shiftier of the two running backs. Once Ingram gets going on the ground, he’s hard to stop and can wear down opposing defenses like no one else for the Horns. Ingram was limited in the Big 12 Championship Game loss to the Oklahoma Sooners, but he was efficient on the ground and in the receiving game down the stretch in the regular season before that.

Watson and Ingram both found a good groove three games into the regular season and gave this Texas offense a new threat to work with. Herman and offensive coordinator Tim Beck can get the Georgia linebackers and defensive backs to start creeping up with an effective run game, which then gives them the opportunity to get the receivers involved over the top.
