Could the first addition by way of the transfer market this off-season for Texas football come from the biggest in-state rival, Texas A&M Aggies?

The transfer market is already heating up for the Texas football program for both players departing and looking to make their way to the Forty Acres. More headlines are sure to be looming for Power Five programs like the Texas Longhorns, but for now the focus should be on keeping the current roster together for the Allstate Sugar Bowl on Jan. 1.

The quarterback market is the most heavily impacted area for Texas football so far, with the newly instituted NCAA Transfer Portal. Both talented true freshman quarterbacks Cameron Rising and Casey Thompson are going to explore their transfer options during the upcoming off-season after just one year on the Forty Acres.

Head Texas football coach Tom Herman had to be itching to get some good news in the way of the transfer market. After he found out he would be losing a host of young talent on both sides of the ball, just within the past few weeks, this had to be a distraction that will be detrimental to his team entering the 2019 campaign.

Texas football is also set to lose sophomore running back Toneil Carter and freshman defensive lineman Mike Williams to transfer since the start of the month of December. But, Herman could be adding some names back to the roster this off-season soon, with some rumors emerging lately.

The next addition that could be coming the way of the Texas football program is the twin brother of a first-year wide receiver Josh Moore. Texas A&M Aggies safety Jordan Moore announced his intentions to transfer out of College Station on his Twitter timeline on Dec. 23.

By all indications, Jordan Moore could already be targeting the Forty Acres and the Texas football program as his potential landing spot. Per Taylor Hamm of AggieScoop, no one should be “surprised to see him in Austin”. The connection with his twin brother at the other big in-state program in Texas makes sense.

During his recruitment, Moore had an impressive offer sheet as a four-star Yoakum, TX, safety part of the 2018 recruiting class. Texas A&M signed him ahead of offers from Texas football, the Alabama Crimson Tide, Nebraska Cornhuskers, and LSU Tigers. He had more than 30 offers in total, and was a top 25 ranked safety in the nation.

However, the fact that Moore didn’t join his twin brother on the Forty Acres last year made some sense with how many safeties Herman had during the 2018 recruiting cycle. The 5-foot-11 and 200 pound safety does have some opportunity to make an impact with the Horns with how many departures are set for the secondary this off-season.

From another perspective, this would be a nice add for the Texas football coaching staff since there could be some heavy losses on both sides of the ball this off-season. Moore is a quick defensive back with good ball skills and reliable tackling ability he showed during his time with the Yoakum High School football program.
