Practical Cap Space in 2019: $49 million

For this list, we used the Spotrac 2019 NBA Cap Space Tracker, which measures the cap space available for each team if the cap holds are renounced if each team is below the salary cap maximum. Since the biggest priority for Kevin Durant this offseason seems to be getting the most money possible in a good situation, cap space is going to be an important factor.

While some cap situations will change before the offseason comes around, thanks to the trade market, most of these teams will be in a similar scenario come next summer. The trade market should shake things up in the Western Conference more than it will in the East. There are more teams vying to keep pace with the Warriors than any particular team in the East.

One of the teams that should be in a very similar situation this offseason is the Indiana Pacers. The Pacers have a set roster that could take them through a good run in the playoffs in the Eastern Conference. Thanks to the rise of star guard Victor Oladipo over the last season and a half, the Pacers remained competitive in the East after the loss of forward Paul George to the Thunder.

Indiana has a ton of cap space to work with this offseason, and landing the top target among the 2019 NBA free agents would make it really fun to watch this team in the 2019-20 season. Placing Durant alongside Oladipo would make for potentially the best one-two punch in the East and make the Pacers instant title contenders.
