Texas Football vs. Georgia: 10 reasons to be excited for the Sugar Bowl
9. Two future Heisman contenders on opposite sidelines
Ehlinger and Fromm are already starting to garner some Heisman hype for the 2019 campaign, and they’re both just exiting their sophomore seasons. Each quarterbacks sits among the best in each respective conference after having standout 2018 seasons. It will be awesome to see two of the best sophomore signal callers in the game today squaring off on the stage of a New Year’s Six Bowl.
Fromm was already getting some hype around a potential Heisman campaign this year since he led the Dawgs all the way to the College Football Playoff National Championship Game as a true freshman. He didn’t do enough to surpass the likes of Alabama quarterback Tua Tagovailoa among the best Heisman contenders in the SEC. But, he did cement his status as one of the best returning quarterbacks in the SEC for 2019.
Both Ehlinger and Fromm received some recognition among the top 10 best Heisman contender picks in the nation after the honors were announced this year. The hype for each quarterback is well-warranted too. Ehlinger has 38 total touchdowns and just five interceptions in one of the best years we’ve seen from a Texas football quarterback in nearly a decade.
Fromm wasn’t able to take his team to the heights Georgia reached last season, but he couldn’t have come closer. Georgia was one spot outside the four team field for the final College Football Playoff Rankings. The SEC Championship Game finish against the Crimson Tide was heartbreaking for Georgia too.
