Initial national pundit rankings

Even though the final college football rankings from the AP Poll clearly whiffed on the final ranking for Texas football, that doesn’t mean the national pundits will miss too. Georgia and Texas should both be ranked pretty high in most of the way too early polls for the 2019 campaign. Both programs bring back a ton of talent coming off good 2018 seasons.

There’s outlets that have the Horns falling anywhere from No. 4 to No. 15 in the nation entering the 2019 off-season. The way-too-early rankings are going to change depending on what happens before National Signing Day and in the transfer market. Bleacher Report had the Horns in the No. 4 spot, even ahead of the Sooners.

Sports Illustrated had more tempered expectations for the Horns, coming in at No. 8 in the nation behind the Sooners. CBS Sports was one of the more surprising set of rankings, since it had Texas at No. 11 and the Oregon Ducks at No. 7. And similar to SI, ESPN had the Horns at No. 8 in its rankings.

The common takeaway here is that the Horns should be in a similar spot to where it was to round out the 2018 campaign when the preseason polls drop prior to the start of the 2019 regular season.

However, a few of the more similar outlets to Hook’em Headlines (in one case the same outlet), FanSided and SB Nation both were pretty high on the Horns. FanSided had Texas at No. 4 and SB Nation had them at No. 8.
