The talks for Kyler Murray entering the 2019 NFL Draft are reportedly “heating up” with the deadline to declare looming this month.

The talk surrounding the 2019 NFL Draft decision for the Oklahoma Sooners Heisman-winning junior quarterback Kyler Murray is really starting to heat up. For the 2019 NFL Draft, it was just assumed that Kyler Murray wouldn’t be included in the quarterback class.

In the first round of the 2019 MLB Draft, Kyler Murray was selected by the Oakland Athletics and signed quite the large contract. If Murray foregoes that contract with the Athletics and decides to go the NFL route, he’ll give up a huge sum of money.

Kyler Murray indicated in the past that he would like to play both baseball and football professionally if possible. It just doesn’t seem like that is going to work out for him. According to the San Francisco Chronicle, Murray more than likely won’t be able to play in the NFL and MLB. Both the NFL and MLB look to oppose Murray playing in the other league.

However, this isn’t stopping Murray from sitting amid the talks of the 2019 NFL Draft. The reigning Heisman Trophy winner is an intriguing prospect for the NFL with his quick decision making, elusiveness, flat out speed, and arm strength. His lack of size is his only hurdle to NFL success by all indications.

According to Bleacher Report’s Matt Miller, Murray keeps trending more and more in the direction of declaring for the 2019 NFL Draft. That would be crazy news for fans of the Sooners, Texas Longhorns, etc. Although the Sooners are likely the most hated rival of the Texas football program, no one can deny how much fun it would be to watch Murray in the NFL.

Texas football fans got very familiar with watching Murray and the vaunted Oklahoma offense in 2018. The Red River Showdown occurred twice in the same year. Once came in the traditional Red River meeting at the original Cotton Bowl at the Texas State Fairgrounds on Oct. 6. Then, Texas and Oklahoma met for the first time ever in a Big 12 Championship Game on Dec. 1.

If nothing else, Texas fans recognize the value that Murray would provide at the NFL level. His track level speed and the experience he gained from one year as the Oklahoma starting quarterback proved he could excel in the NFL, despite his size.

At the end of the 2018 regular season, no one figured Kyler Murray would pass up the chance to play in the MLB since he was selected as a first round pick by the Athletics. He was handed a very juicy contract offer before even playing out his junior season for Oklahoma football.

It seems as if the true passion for Murray lies with football, and that could lead him to declare for the 2019 NFL Draft when it’s all said and done. That would add one of the most exciting storylines possible for one of the more important off-season events in the world of college football and the NFL.
