Texas Football: 5 potential landing spots for QB Cameron Rising
5. Arizona State Sun Devils
If Rising wants to leave the Texas football program to head somewhere a bit closer to home, looking at spots where he could make an immediate impact in the PAC-12 would be a good way to go. Since Rising already took a visit to the University of Utah early in the off-season, other programs in the PAC-12 could emerge as potential transfer destinations soon enough.
The Arizona State Sun Devils present an intriguing landing spot for some of the top transferring quarterback talent for a number of reasons. The first is the opportunity and intrigue surrounding the opportunity to play for a well-known and nationally recognized head coach, Herm Edwards. But, the main reason why Arizona State is an attractive place for quarterbacks to land is the chance to take the torch under center from departing starting quarterback Manny Wilkins.
Wilkins ran out of eligibility following the end of the 2018 campaign, and Edwards will be looking for the best possible candidate to supplant him. The competition to win the starting quarterback job, outside of any transfers that could land with the Sun Devils, include rising junior Dillon Sterling-Cole and rising sophomore Kurt Walding.
Arizona State was one of the more than 25 schools that offered Rising during his recruitment out of high school. In fact, both Arizona schools offered Rising, but Arizona State makes much more sense for him than the Arizona Wildcats. The opportunity for immediate playing time and to play in an offensive scheme that has a similar pass-run balance to Texas football are attractive factors for Rising to land with Arizona State.
