Texas Football: 5 potential landing spots for QB Cameron Rising
3. Utah Utes
The Utah Utes got the first known visit from Rising, on Jan. 11. This visit for Rising was the first actual domino to fall between the trio of Texas football quarterbacks that are assumed to be testing the transfer market this off-season. The other two Texas quarterbacks include Thompson and junior Shane Buechele.
Utah didn’t have much consistency at the quarterback position for consecutive seasons at all in the past decade. Rising junior quarterback Tyler Huntley gave the Utah passing game a nice spark, and helped to keep everything balanced thanks to his dual-threat ability. But, even Huntley struggled with some injury issues at the end of the 2018 regular season.
A huge point of appeal to playing for the Utah offense would be playing alongside standout running back Zack Moss, but he is headed for the 2019 NFL Draft. The next Utah quarterback will get to hand the ball off to rising junior running back Armand Shyne, who is still a good option to spearhead the ground game.
Head coach Kyle Whittingham had one of his most successful seasons with the Utah football program in 2018. That says a lot since he is one of the best head coaches in the PAC-12 and one of the most underrated in the nation in general. The momentum the Utes have entering the 2019 season could be one draw for Rising to playing in Salt Lake City, UT.
