In a 2020 Texas football recruiting class that currently only holds two commits, who should the coaching staff target to haul in early in the cycle?

While it’s still early on in the 2020 cycle for the Texas football recruiting class, things are going to ramp up soon. National Signing Day 2019 is looming for Texas football recruiting, which then turns the focus to the 2020 class after locking it up for this cycle.

This 2020 Texas football recruiting class is already starting to fall behind the top spot in the Big 12 rankings. Both Oklahoma schools sit ahead of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class in the Big 12 rankings and there’s a few programs clearly within striking distance. The Iowa State Cyclones are just one 2020 three-star commit away from jumping the Texas football recruiting class in the Big 12 rankings.

The national rankings are also going to leave this Texas football recruiting class in the dust soon if things don’t pick up soon. Texas sits at No. 21 in the national class rankings for the 2020 recruiting cycle. Teams like the Northwestern Wildcats, Oklahoma State Cowboys, and Mississippi State Bulldogs shouldn’t be ahead of Texas in the recruiting rankings.

It won’t be that difficult for this Texas football recruiting class to catch up with the competition like it did for the past two cycles. The 2018 Texas football recruiting class finished up as the third best in the nation and the 2019 class is bound for a top 10 national ranking for National Signing Day. It would be good to see Texas get out in front of everyone and land a key early 2020 commit or two.

Here’s a look at the five important recruiting targets for the Texas Longhorns for the 2020 cycle.
