One of the more important recent top 10’s that were released involving a target of the 2020 Texas football recruiting class came from four-star athlete Mookie Cooper. There just aren’t that many prospects like Cooper that are going to come about as a target for the Horns each recruiting cycle, especially at the skill positions.

Although size is definitely a hurdle in Cooper’s recruitment, there’s very few prospects you can find with more agility and flat out speed than him. Cooper is a track star that is going to be an electric skill position weapon wherever he ends up.

Another issue for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class in pursuit of Cooper is the pure quantity of Big 12 programs after him. Other Big 12 teams like Oklahoma State and the Oklahoma Sooners are likely to be prominent figures in the pursuit of Cooper. Texas will have to fight hard to stave off efforts from programs like the Pokes and Sooners to land him.

The 5-foot-9 and 178 pound measurables that Cooper has listed on his recruiting profile might even be a stretch. His size is not going to be the best part of his physical tools and skill set, but it could allow him to be even more elusive off the line wherever he lines up on offense. Cooper could become a player similar to Tyreek Hill, Dexter McCluster, Darren Sproles, etc.
