Impact the transfers has for Longhorns

The emergence of Ehlinger this year gave the Horns something at quarterback the program didn’t have in nearly a decade. The string of the starting quarterback the Horns had from Vince Young to Colt McCoy gave them enough to make the push for numerous national titles under former head coach Mack Brown.

Another factor that likely pushed Rising and Thompson out of the picture was the signing and intention to enroll early from four-star dual-threat Port Neches, TX, quarterback Roschon Johnson. Texas also has a solid hometown quarterback committed for the 2020 recruiting class, four-star Hudson Card.

However, head coach Tom Herman can’t be happy with the loss of all this depth on the Forty Acres set for the 2019 off-season. All of these transfer rumors are another distraction that the players don’t need heading into spring camp. But, this is something that Power Five teams just have to deal with now with the newly instituted NCAA Transfer Portal.

The one positive the NCAA Transfer Portal could have for the Horns is the possibility to add some depth at positions of need outside of quarterback. If Texas can add something at either running back or offensive line during the off-season from the NCAA Transfer Portal, it could help soften the blow it has to the quarterback room.
