The last area that this Texas football recruiting class needs help is in the defensive backfield. This group has numerous three and four-star safeties and cornerbacks that will add a lot of depth to the secondary starting in spring camp. There is still one key target left that this recruiting class can add before the end of National Signing Day.

Since there’s so much skill returning at safety for the Horns this year, signees like four-stars Chris Adimora and Tyler Owens are going to have to wait their turn. It will likely be a similar narrative for someone like four-star Mansfield Legacy High School safety Jalen Catalon.

This group of safeties that the Horns have returning to campus for the 2019 season is chalked full of NFL-caliber talent. The likely starters that will stand out at safety next year are senior Brandon Jones, and rising sophomores Caden Sterns and B.J. Foster. But, the group that includes Catalon, Adimora, and Owens could be the ones waiting to take the torch in the next few years. That is if Catalon decides to commit and sign with the Horns.

The ultimate commitment decision of Catalon seems to be boiling down to the 2019 Texas football recruiting class and the Arkansas Razorbacks. According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, Catalon has an equal shot at landing with either Arkansas or Texas. The TCU Horned Frogs and Oklahoma Sooners might sneak the way into relevance in the recruitment of Catalon, but it’s not a likely occurrence.
