1. Texas wins the Big 12 Championship Game over a surprise opponent

The Big 12 Championship Game last year was decided by Texas football and the Oklahoma Sooners. Texas fell short to the Sooners in the second meeting between these two fierce rivals. But, it was Oklahoma that fell short in the first edition of the Red River Showdown in 2018.

If there is another season looming that includes two meetings of the Red River Showdown in the span of a few months, it would be a positive influence for the Big 12 nationally. Red River is the most prominent rivalry in the Big 12, and now that Texas football might actually be “back” or at least relevant, the Horns and Sooners could take the rightful spot atop the conference standings again for years to come.

However, there’s no denying the heavy losses the Sooners are about to see from that electric offense we saw during the 2018 campaign. Departing stars like Heisman winning quarterback Kyler Murray, NFL prospect wide receiver Marquise Brown, and numerous standout offensive linemen could open the door to other teams making a run at the Big 12 Championship Game in 2019.

Other Big 12 teams like the TCU Horned Frogs, Baylor Bears, Iowa State Cyclones, and Oklahoma State Cowboys will all be trending up in this coming season and will all be tough outs for Texas and Oklahoma. We won’t know what the Big 12 Title picture looks like for 2019 until about the sixth or seventh week of the regular season thanks to a jam packed early Big 12 slate and a logjam in the middle of the conference.
