Texas football suffered a big loss when LJ Humphrey announced his intentions to turn pro. Here is an early look at the WR depth chart for 2019.

The most productive Texas football wide receiver of the 2018 season officially declared for the 2019 NFL Draft via a social media announcement early last week, via his Twitter timeline.

Junior wide receiver Lil’Jordan Humphrey led the Horns in receptions (86), receiving yards (1,176), and receiving touchdowns (9) during last year’s campaign. He was sophomore quarterback Sam Ehlinger’s safety blanket and the guy looked to on third down.

With that being said, life must, and will, go on without Humphrey lining up out wide.

Humphrey is clearly a big loss for the program, but the Texas football wide receiver room should not be hurting for too long.

One of the strongest positions on this Texas football roster is the wide receiver position. Both Charlie Strong and Tom Herman have recruited the position very well.

Over the past four recruiting cycles (including 2019) the Longhorns have signed 13 scholarship wide receivers, nine of them being rated at least 4-stars, via 247Sports. And, 10 of the 13 are expected to be on the 2019 Texas football roster.

The Longhorns are ultra deep at the wide receiver position and have a good variety of talent. Some speedsters, some crisp route runners, and some physical freaks. There is not one scholarship wide receiver that does not have the skills to play power five football. However, with a logjam at the position, spring and fall camp will be crucial to show off skills as well as establish continuity with Ehlinger, specifically for the younger guys.

Here are the early projections for what the Texas football receiving depth chart may look like come Fall 2019.

Note: Coach Herman typically only lists two or three players for each position when he releases his depth chart, but for the purpose of this article we will rank every player who may possibly contribute come 2019.
