The list of prospects offered for the 2021 Texas football recruiting class is growing, including a key four-star 2021 linebacker Branden Jennings.

The 2021 Texas football recruiting class still has a long time before it comes to the forefront, but this is the time where the offers to the most important targets that come to mind are sent out. This Texas football recruiting class for the 2021 cycle is having a very busy month of January in terms of scouting and sending out offers.

Most of the focus for the 2020 Texas football recruiting class is now on pursuing and gauging the interest of the top offerees of the cycle. And, the 2019 class for the Texas Longhorns already has pretty much every offer sent out that is going to be for the entire recruiting cycle. National Signing Day for the 2019 cycle is almost here and most of the action for that class for the Horns is in the rear view mirror.

However, the 2021 Texas football recruiting class sent out an intriguing offer to a talented inside linebacker prospect. Linebacker can be a revolving door of prospects for a program as big as Texas. Early entrances to the NFL Draft and transfers can reduce the amount of linebacker depth the Horns have year in and year out. Offering the four-star 2021 inside linebacker Branden Jennings is something that can help add depth at that level of the defense down the line.

This 6-foot-3 and 220 pound Jacksonville, FL, linebacker was one of three natives from his same state that were offered from the Horns. Jennings was the most high-profile of the group as he’s a high-rated linebacker that could be able to contribute immediately. But, that depends on how the front seven situation shakes out for the next two seasons.

Moreover, this offer Jennings got from the 2021 Texas football recruiting class gets him one step closer to double digits on his offer sheet. He is starting to gain more attention outside the state of Florida. His offer sheet now, outside of the Horns, now includes the Florida State Seminoles, Miami Hurricanes, and Ohio State Buckeyes, among others.

The 2021 Texas football recruiting class will be fighting an uphill battle to land Jennings. According to the 247Sports Crystal Ball Predictions, Florida State has the early lead on Jennings’ commitment. Rivals FanCast also gives Florida State the early edge.

The big in-state programs seem to have the nod early in the recruitment of Jennings to land him. Texas could become the dark horse outside program to land the commitment of Jennings down the road, though. He would be a great add to a nice linebacker lineage for the Texas defense.

The starting linebackers for the Horns by the time Jennings would announce his commitment will be some form of De’Gabriel Floyd, Ayodele Adeoye, Joseph Ossai, Caleb Johnson, and/or DeMarvion Overshown. Increased linebacker performance on the field could also help gain some momentum and interest from Jennings down the road.
