How will the former Texas Longhorns football quarterback Cameron Rising fit with the Utah Utes when he’s eligible to play again in 2020?

The Texas football program got some likely news on Jan. 17 with the announcement that the former four-star pro-style quarterback recruit Cameron Rising intends to transfer to join the Utah Utes football program. Per 247Sports, Cameron Rising made his decision to transfer to Utah after taking an official visit to the school the weekend previous to his commitment.

At least the Texas Longhorns got some good news for its quarterback room just one day previous to the announcement of the Cameron Rising transfer with former four-star dual-threat quarterback recruit Casey Thompson staying on the Forty Acres. Rising and Thompson were part of the same 2018 recruiting class for the Horns.

Moreover, it looked as if the quarterback room depth for the Horns could crumble pretty fast this off-season with Rising and Thompson both announcing transfer intentions. Rising and Thompson put their names into the NCAA Transfer Portal right as the rumors were building surrounding the transfer of junior quarterback Shane Buechele too.

Now, the Horns look to get Thompson back, while losing out on Cameron Rising and Buechele to the transfer market. That leaves enough depth in the quarterback room for the Horns to manage just fine. Texas will return rising junior Sam Ehlinger, four-star 2019 signee dual-threat quarterback Roschon Johnson, Thompson, and a preferred walk-on freshman Sam Saxton.

Losing out on two of the potential five quarterbacks the Horns could have on the depth chart for the 2019 season isn’t the worst thing to happen. And, Cameron Rising is set to join Utah football which doesn’t face the Horns during the regular season for the foreseeable future.

Here’s a look at how the former Texas Longhorns quarterback Cameron Rising fits with his new team, the Utah Utes, heading into the 2019 season.
